Traditional Recipes​

​Advent Event Sloppy Joes

​2 lbs. ground beef, browned and drained​
1 onion, diced
​1/2 sweet pepper, diced​
1 Tbls. brown sugar
1 Tbls. prepared mustard
1 Tbls. cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups  ketchup

In a large skillet, brown ground beef. Drain and set aside. Heat a bit of olive oil in skillet, add onion and pepper; sauté until soft. Return meat to skillet and add in remaining ingredient, stirring to distribute evenly. Simmer a bit to meld flavors. 

Vegetarian Sloppy Joes

Substitute TVP (3 1/3 cups TVP rehydrated with 3 cups boiling water), frozen crumbles,  or broken up veggie burgers to equal 2 lbs. ground meat. Proceed with recipe as above.

Sugar Cookie Dough Recipe
With mixer, cream the following ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened to room temperature
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbls. milk or cream
Sift together:
2 1/2 cups flour (+1/4 cup)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Add dry ingredients to wet and mix to combine.
Chill dough in sealed container until ready to roll, cut, and bake cookies.

Basic Cookie Icing Recipe
2 cups powdered sugar (sifted if lumpy)
​4-6 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
​
Combine sugar, vanilla and a bit of the milk in a mixer bowl and beat into a smooth icing. Add more milk as needed to make a spreadable or pipe-able consistency.
